Pair of F557 "Oyster" armchairs by Pierre Paulin for Artifort, 1961

Pair of vintage armchairs F557 called "Oyster", first edition made by Pierre Paulin and published by Artifort in 1961. The production ended in 1965 and there is no reissue nowadays. The shell in molded and pressed wood is filled with foam covered with a dark green fabric from Gabriel. A total restoration has been done by a professional upholsterer. The seats rest on a swivel base in molded plastic lacquered to nine in the respect of the original color. Manufacturer's stamp visible under the foot. Seats of an irreproachable comfort with a design adaptable in various interiors.

Designer : Pierre Paulin (1927-2009), French artist graduated from the Camando school in 1950. His creations were noticed at the Salon des Arts Ménagers by Thonet, which became his first publisher. He collaborated with Artifort from 1958, in the production of a range of seats that have become iconic today.

Manufacturer: Henricus Wagemans takes over the family business, which becomes a furniture factory in 1928 under the name Artifort. Based in Maastricht, it turned to contemporary furniture in 1958 and collaborated with Pierre Paulin on models of seats made of molded wooden shells, upholstered in foam covered with colored jersey fabric.
